Beatport is in my opinion one of the shittiest platforms. Overpriced, only 50% goes to artists/labels. Stopped shopping there many years ago.

However, that is irrelevant to the topic.

In any case I agree with many of the points made in the article posted by Gagarin (this one: http://kernelmag.dai...-payment-model/ )

just noticed that bandcamp limits the number of time you can listen to a "unpurchased" album.

i was abusing Don Peyote last album, and after 2-3 full plays it blocked me proposing to purchase.

i think is good move - beneficial to artist :)

p.s.

the "cheat" solution is to clean cookies, or open browser in "private" session.

the good solution is to "purchase" :)

I get these pop-ups only very occasionally on my computer, but they don't seem to stop me streaming the albums and tracks.  There's albums on there that I have listened to many times over without buying them (not sure what I am waiting for - sometimes it takes me a long time to decide to purchase, other times I purchase straight away).

I think it enforces the limit on mobile devices tho (unless someone says otherwise)

we live in interesting era, when we establish the copyrights for everything and when we might for freedome. Personally i don't have a fixed opinion on the copyright and pircacy subject. Both can be good and harm a lot. One thing i know, our dear artist needs our financial support and we shall support them with a purchasing music from them or donating.

Beatport - bankrupt and will be sold soon ....

Established in 2004, the service was acquired in 2013 by Robert F. X. Sillerman's company SFX Entertainment for a reported price of slightly over $50 million.[2] SFX Entertainment filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy on February 1, 2016, and Beatport was put subsequently put up for sale, with an auction scheduled for May.[3]

Yes, the writing has been on the wall for Beatport for some time now...

now Apple also turned evil with Apple Music streaming service :(

Not just evil...the devil incarnate.

https://blog.velluma...c-no-seriously/

Be careful using this service. I have read, once you click the accept terms the software actually searches your hard drives and any connected devices to determine if you have music which Apple considers to have available on their streaming service, then, it deletes it from your hard drive. Read that again.

This is simply illegal. But until the sheeple stand up and say enough, the abuse of power and destruction/theft of our personal property will continue. You cannot possibly know this is what you are accepting with agreeing to the terms.

Online life, connected life is very useful and productive, however people need to be enlightened about certain things. We are getting reamed by the media giants and the communication providers. And the law enforcers seem to be on their side. Stop giving total access to your personal data to these companies. They use it for profit and the information belongs to you, not them. Demand the ability to turn off location services from your apps or stop using them. Demand the ability to deny any permission to apps that you deem it doesn't need.

Maybe I'm just an old fart and lost in time. If that is true, you'll be rid of me one of these days.

Whoah.. Sounds just unbelievable! I can't believe what I just read. Oh man... Better not to subscribe ever on that.

So far I've been subscribing for Soundcloud pro account and making a yearly donation to Ektoplazm  :P

And have to admit that I've never bought anything from beatport. Shame it's going bankrupt though.

I don't know how beatport can be going under, they charge like wounded bulls!  Maybe that's their problem, prices to high and number of customers too low.  I'm guessing Bandcamp doesn't have that problem.

I only buy from beatport as a last resort, if no-one else cheaper stocks the particular tracks I want.  They do have a great range, I have to admit.

maybe they spend too much on marketing or R and D , don't know. i am pretty sure many many people buy from there, maybe they have too much employee. don't know if they communicated on this subject.

the more player we have in the market is better i think.
