You guys will have to occasionally excuse my genre labeling.. it can be difficult sometimes to pigeonhole releases that are unpigeonholeable into a single genre:
  • Spinnet is more like breaks than downtempo
  • The Irresistible Force should've probably gone under downtempo instead of psybient/psychill
  • Erothyme who the hell knows
  • Argus is split almost down the middle between psybient & chillgressive
  • Pointelin is more like downtempo progressive house than chillgressive

I think Erothyme is IDM, sounds like Kettel (glitchy analog synts sound)

I am waiting for Codex VI, but I'm slowly go out of psychedelic music world, maybe because of I tired to listen to this music more then 10 years, maybe because of low quality (nothing unique) and minimum experiments at this style nowadays.

It's always going to be there if you want to come back. :)

Looking forward to Codex VI as well.

You can only innovate so much within a genre, even with as many subgenres as psychedelic downtempo, before it turns into something else.

Thanks, I agree enough that I changed it above.

While I agree that there hasn't been anything truly groundbreaking in a while, I don't think that "nothing unique" necessarily means "low quality". Just because a release doesn't break the mold doesn't mean it sounds bad. An example from this week would be CatchAll's album, not particularly unique, but classic high quality psychill imo.

Maybe you're just getting burned out and need a break? I've heard that spending a few days in total darkness at a
darkness meditation retreat can work wonders.

Looking forward to Codex VI as well.

Based on how Empty Branes sounds, I'm calling it now: this album is going to be on par with the holy trinity of their first 3 albums.

Off topic: I think it's common to get that "heard it all before" feeling when you become experienced in a genre. I've had it myself once, thank god it didn't last too long. The beauty of our music can help you overcome the familiarity, unless you want something monumental to keep your interest.

I absolutely adore Shpongle, as I do the bulk of Simon's work, and I really enjoyed Empty Branes. I try not to have high hopes though. That way if it is an excellent album I'll be even more pleased.

On topic: I enjoyed Argus' album, although it's typical Altar fare. The Logical Elements EP was also good.

The Fourth Dimension album is a bit too ambient for my mood these days, needs a bit of a special frame of mind to be appreciated, as do most Synphaera releases.

Some of the releases of artists I follow haven't grabbed my attention so far, like Mystic Crock & Dense and Spectrum Vision.

Yes, I think my problem is that I want something monumental (like "Kattoo - Megrim" in IDM genre for example)

But nevermind, you do a great job guys. Dub, ambient, downtempo - is the best music for intelligent people
