My plan, though it's progressing waaaay slower than I first thought, is to make a rack centered around the Phonogene or some equivalent module. Tape recorder madness! I've got PCB's and panels to make most of the Mutable modules and rails for a DIY case. I just need time and peace of mind to actually DO all of it. I've access to all facillities including laser cutting for the case at my university, but the studies are taking up all my time and energy.... soo, maybe after the summer holidays I'll get some soldering done.

Alrightm since we're playing thread necromancy, how come nobdoy's mentioned Shulman? The intricacy and sheer amount of attention to musical detail always does the trick for me.

Sure it would, Schofield! If it works, it works. What matters is the music we play and not the gear we use  

I saw Yaniv DJ at S.U.N. Festival in 2013, so at least he still does that. Or used to, anyway. Not sure if he does it anymore.
 
Shulman is also one of my favourite artists. Really hope he/they make a comeback at some point. And also Aleph Zero, naturally. They did some really sweet music and sounded different than most other labels out there.

Maybe Lauge & Baba Gnohm as well? They also have that slightly cold, northern vibe to their tracks.
And if you're into deeper ambient then Ishq and Sinepearl are pretty solid artists.

Pads are pretty much the trademark of ambient but there are million-billion ways of making them. 
 
I often find myself struggling to make something that fills the mix and evolves over time. How do you guys go about it?

I read a really nice post on this subject the other day, however now I cant seem to find it. Basically the whole "432 is more alligned with the universe" is absolute bollocks. It's about arbitrary frequencies of tuning. As long as you follow the tuning, i.e. A3 is 440, A4 is 880 and so forth, it doesnt matter which frequency you choose as long as you're consistent. I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere.

I use the same set. It really doesn't get simpler.

Definitely! Once I get around to actually writing something again I'll pester him for those impulses. I either seem to never have the time or the creativity these days. Hopefully that won't last forever, though

I think Steve Reich - Music For 18 Musicians deserves an honorable mention. Made in 1978 and completely blew my mind when I heard it for the first time. Since then he has remained as one of my favourite composers.

I believe ambient will be my go-to genre for many years to come. I feel like I'm drifting deeper into beatless and experimental territory as time passes.

I'm honestly not feeling it. Have given it a few spins by now and it just doesn't captivate me. I probably went into it with too high expectations but it doesn't even come close to the epicness and coherency (is that even a word?) that Mir had.

If you're referring to my audio interface it's close, Iurii. It's the PC equivalent, RME Babyface. 

Probably the best album this year, in my humble opinion.

Sounds like a lovely plan, Yuri. And financially I think you're being realistic. At least if you have to book venues yourself.
 
The way I do it here in Copenhagen is that I found a place (international student's cafe) that was interested in the cultural aspect of doing an ambient night. They let me have a saturday every month or two (providing it didn't cost them too much money) and I could book for around £200 a night. Not a lot, but enough to give the musicians a little beer money. Also allowed me to hire a deco team and a visual artists if I wanted.
I definitely think I was lucky on that one as I have no money of my own in the pot, but then again, if there's a profit I won't see a dime of it.

So I cleaned up and got myself a stand for the Nord. It's a small setup, but it works.
