YuriNondual reacted to andorra in Psytrance roots (oldschool trance)
Here are some (just few to mention...) of my favorite albums from the past I used to listen to a lot
I think it was the "Distance to Goa 6" that really turned me into psy- and goatrance scene
There's just so much good stuff from the past... Luckily some artist are doing some great remixes of old classics and bringing these up to date.

I noticed that Dubtechno vibes slowly making it's way into psychedelic world
I've seen SMBH by Occult released today on Merkaba Music, and I am a huge fan of Yagya for a long time now.

YuriNondual reacted to snowdrop in The Official Carbon Based Lifeforms Discussion Thread
My relationship with CBL is an unusually emotional one. I had a boyfriend who used to play it when we were together and the relationship ended with him betraying me very badly, so I couldn't listen to it for months. About three years later I was at Boom (last year) with my current partner, he was having a miserable time because of the heat and we were getting really upset with each other. We were at the Sacred Fire just having just had another horrible argument and then CBL appeared and helped us to heal so much of the pain we were feeling at that moment.
So yeah, that's my 'me and CBL' story
Jatab - yours is pretty inspirational!

YuriNondual got a reaction from mannybakshi in Introductions (Say Hello)
Hello All.
My name is Yuri. I am Russian, born in Latvia, living in UK since 2005. I work as Web Application Developer. I've been listening to Psychedelic ambient and psychill since 2003-2004. I was 17 years old, and I was picking psilocybe semilanceata back at home and naturally started researching everything that is related with psychedelic culture, heard Future sounds of ambient vol3. And shortly after heard Shpongle. Became crazy Shpongle fan until they released 4th album. Was listening to Shpongle all day everyday and it was like a religion for me for a while, then suddenly my obsession stopped when 4th album was released.
These days I am mostly listening to Matt Hillier's music and sacred bass/glitch inspired psychill. I do listen to psytrance, nothing cheesy, nothing too progressive, sometimes dark and forest but not manically. I do listen to other genres as well including idm, balkan, dub techno, etc etc. Whatever sounds interesting can work.
I heard about psybient.org in it's early days naturally through social media, and my friend Nick Gabriel, then started following iurii on Facebook to get all the latest updates.
Best.

YuriNondual reacted to mcthfg in Introductions (Say Hello)
Hello from South Korea!
I'm mcthfg. I produce mostly psybient and dub. I just released a track/album on Dubmission Records, and I've been really touched and honored by the response from the psybient community. Thank you for all the support!
There is so much variety and so many great artists producing psybient and dub right now - what a great time for music. And sites like Psybient.org supporting that music - thanks to you as well.
I have three more albums coming out on Dubmission (and hopefully more!), and a tour in the works, so stay tuned

YuriNondual got a reaction from yiannis in Album of the year (1995-2014)
It is also a bit difficult because a lot of Albums that came out recently and I think are amazing, will fade out in a bit. They need a time to settle down before I can truly say that they are good.

Exploring a new concept-mix from Itza.
"This series of journeys have been inspired by musical influences coming from the Romani people, commonly known as Gypsies. In many of the places the Romanies have lived, they have been known as notable musicians, blending a spectrum of sonic elements connected to the wide distances travelled. It all started with the Indian roots from Rajasthan, then adding and influencing elements of Persian, Middle East, Egyptian, Spanish, Greek, Turkish, Russian, Romanian, the Balkans, many other countries in East Europe, even American folk, amongst other zones worldwide. It all explains why it is so difficult to define the parameters of an unified Romani musical style, as there are many differences in melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and formal structures from region to region."
I just love Itza's work and vision!

YuriNondual got a reaction from yiannis in What do you enjoy about psychedelic downtempo?
I love the hypnotozing effect of loops and multi layerness. When music drifts you away so much that you can empty your mind from doubts and worries. Much of Matt Hillier's music is like that. Elve - Emerald is great example.
For me hypnotising effect is very important in faster genres too.

YuriNondual reacted to yiannis in What do you enjoy about psychedelic downtempo?
The title should be self-explanatory.
For me it's the following:
1. Obviously, the slow tempo. I love it when it's around 70-100 bpm.
2. The pads. Extremely important for me. It feels like swimming or diving in an aural sea.
3. The layers. Although I can appreciate some minimal psybient, like some Virtual and Robert Rich releases, it sends me to other worlds when there are arpeggios and effects around the main themes.
4. The melodies. I can't enjoy purely weird or experimental music for too long.
5. The ethnic element. a. Vocals, Arabic, Far Eastern, Tuvan, almost anything goes. I know they are anathema to a lot of listeners, but I love them as a part of the whole. Not so much as the main focus, although I do like Entheogenic, for example, who sometimes tend to overuse them b. Instrumentation: I enjoy all manner of traditional instruments, but I have a soft spot for tablas, stringed and wind instruments.
6. The emotional aspect. This might be my favourite element.
7. The "fractal" quality of some of the music. As it says on a sample I heard recently (but can't remember where ) "self similar, but not the same," when I get deep into a tune it feels like getting ever deeper into the Mandelbrot. I know it's the most typical example there is, but that's what it feels like. And it also gets progressively brighter, with various visual effects that look like tricks your eyes play on you on a sunny day, following the effects. I don't often have the will to focus inward for too long though.
8. Nature sounds from field recordings. What would Matt Hillier's music be without them?
9. Some artwork is fantastic and deepens the experience in its own right. I adore the art on Dakini releases, for instance.
As I've said elsewhere, I used to value the spiritual aspect, but now it's not as important for me anymore.
And you?

YuriNondual got a reaction from Gagarin Project in When did you start listening to psybient / psychill music?
Mine was 2003-2004. First ever psychill album I heard and tripped on, alone at my praent's flat, was VA - Future sound of Ambient 3 (http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Future-Sound-Of-Ambient-III-Psychedelic-Chill-Out/release/374230)
Shortly after I heard Shpongle and loved it!

Nice feature being able to change your vote!
This and other similar music pre-date the tags Psybient and Psychill but for me they are part of the journey and history that have led us to where we are now.
