Liquid Bloom - Re:Generations is a good listen.  Would have preferred un-mixed tracks though - or at least the option of un-mixed tracks.

Haven't listened to Chris Komas' EP yet, but his music is usually pretty good.

Well, Shpongle would say that Shongle's album is the best psybient album ever made.

Don't the oldies always say the old music was better?  Maybe it is just perspective, and the ties that bond us to music in our past are stronger than what we feel for the newer music.  When we were younger (I'm nearly 42) we were impressionable and going through big changes finding our places in the world.  The music I listened to 15 or so years ago definitely made its mark on me and brings up feelings when I hear it today.

So the genre is probably still fresh for new, younger ears.

Anyway, I listen to less 'psybient' these days than I used to.  I suppose my tastes have broadened as well over the years.  I it's all swings and roundabouts - falling in and out of love with different genres at different times, going and coming again.  That's why I rarely sell my old CDs, because sometimes I go back to the old ones and have a listen and enjoy them, and reminisce.

Hi, I'm just curious as to what online stations & podcasts that are available for this music? I've been listening to Soma.Fm for many years. Specifically, they have a station that caters to Ambient, downtempo, & psybient called Groove Salad.

Imagine it is a summer, you are on a scooter, a bike or in a nice car (maybe convertible). You are a bit in high vibes and driving towards the adventures.
Sun is shining. The blue sea is on one side of the road, and palmtrees are making whimsy shadows on your highway.
Life is beautiful and you enjoy the reality of this exact moment.
No need to put on cosmic downtempo music or any other deeply penetrating psy.

What would you listen to then?

Trippy, deep, with strong - but not overpowering - beats and mostly unknown (at least to me) names. Very good. I even like the artwork a lot.

I've never tried hash brownies, and my experience with psychedelics is rather limited in terms of substances sampled and dosage - I've only had intense visual distortions and felt completely overwhelmed once. I've never done mushrooms properly and the psychedelic I've found the most intense was acid, so comparing stoned vs tripping, I'd say they can be a bit similar but tripping caused extremely, nearly incomparably enhanced audio perception every time, and often the emotional impact of the music was magnified. That's the audio aspect, the spiritual aspect is another topic altogether. As I've said in another thread, I've found that personally I can approximate the aural effect of acid using cannabis and alcohol. The amount of each component varies according to mood, how much I've eaten, the strength of each component and how it is spread over time, and I'm sure that the music itself can have all kinds of effects as well. I just know it when I get there.

With regards to your last question, if you're asking 'is psybient designed to be listened to on drugs?' my own answer would be definitely not. In the same way that psychedelics can be an, admittedly very fast, shortcut for meditational transcendence, focused intent on listening to every and all elements of psychedelic music at once (with closed eyes and in a relaxed pose) can produce quite similar feelings to listening to it on psychedelics. In other words, as has been said by many, music surely can be the drug. Tiredness tends to give me a push as well, but not when it's combined with frustration or upset and there are a number of techniques, such as food or sleep deprivation, that can bring about psychedelic effects. I personally tend to enjoy psybient at home sober the best lately.

On a last note, there were times when I was listening to music I love tripping, but as the trip was a bit too intense or negative, the music did not pull me out of it; instead I simply didn't enjoy it and in the overwhelming trip I mentioned before at some point it didn't even register - I heard it as unconnected noises.

I came to Psydub a few months ago. I enjoyed Dubstep for some years, but sadly enough, most modern releases are not my cup of tea anymore. Too noisy, too shitty, without soul :-)

Current Psydub has great potential and combines classic Dubstep with ethnic and psychedelic influences.

Here are a few artists I can recommend. They can also be found in my mixsets.

    Landswitcher
    Akasha Experience
    Quanta
    Whitebear
