  1. Hello to both of you Just listening to Ascendant now... truly lovely stuff!
  2. Friends, I invite you to discuss and highlight the music releases that have been announced this week in psybient.org news. You are very welcome to vote for your favourite, most 'interesting' album(s) and/or share your impressions and thoughts on the music. p.s. This is new idea, and we will post similar topics once per week. If you have any ideas regarding how to make this more interesting, fun, and easy to use, please let me know. Embedded players for each release are under the spoiler - click 'show' below to display them.
  3. Greetings I hope it's warmer there than it is here. Brrrrrrrrr.....
  4. It's really good to hear that it's worked like that for you Spinnet - I'll remain more positive about my upcoming life changes in the light of this information
  5. I totally feel you on this - I need to work on caring a little less about harmonic matching and a little more about general flow. I also find matching groove/swing to be very important, obviously more so in heavily percussive tracks. So many compromises to be made!
  6. My relationship with CBL is an unusually emotional one. I had a boyfriend who used to play it when we were together and the relationship ended with him betraying me very badly, so I couldn't listen to it for months. About three years later I was at Boom (last year) with my current partner, he was having a miserable time because of the heat and we were getting really upset with each other. We were at the Sacred Fire just having just had another horrible argument and then CBL appeared and helped us to heal so much of the pain we were feeling at that moment. So yeah, that's my 'me and CBL' story Jatab - yours is pretty inspirational!
  7. In my personal experience, being able to make music whenever I want has had the opposite effect to what I had wished for. Because it's the only thing I 'should' be doing with my time, there's this enormous amount of pressure to do it and I simply don't enjoy it any more. I'm really looking forward to starting postgraduate study, setting up a freelance proofreading business, or getting a part time job. I feel that, because the spare time available to make music will be reduced, I will treasure it more and get more out of it. Well, I hope that's what is going to happen, anyway! I also think it's essential to experience life as fully as possible, as part of mainstream society as well as being immersed in the world of psy music, in order to get the 'raw material' from which musical inspiration comes, and in order to spread the love generated through psy music culture back into the mainstream.
  8. Groove. Bass. Melody/harmony. The sense that I am hearing what is inside me externalised in sonic form. Or, perhaps more accurately, a sonic manifestation of the intersection of inner and outer worlds. Meaning - through spoken word samples, track/album titles, etc. Music may be a universal language, but I appreciate producers throwing up ideas and reiterating themes that are worth thinking about. I use the term 'psychill' or 'chillout' myself because then people generally know what I'm talking about, but technically it's a gross misrepresentation of the genre in my opinion. I don't generally listen to 'chillout' to chill out, I find it an incredibly intense experience.
  9. If you have pads in 432Hz and arps in 440Hz they'll be hideously out of tune with each other... Kalya Scintilla wrote a post about the importance of tuning to 432Hz a while back but it seems to have been removed. I tried it myself for a while and to be honest I stopped because all the tunings seemed to be off with each other, but obviously it can be done right if you're dedicated to implementing it. The jury's still out though. If you think it's worth your while to perfect the art of retuning everything then it probably is. I'd agree with Crucial Flow Research that you should seek out music in 432Hz and compare for yourself (and also with Monsterhed and pangani that you need to make sure it's not just been repitched - listen to artists who you know use 432 tuning). And if you want an equal tempered scale frequency table, here is a link to one I made ages ago when I couldn't find one anywhere on the web: https://www.facebook.com/notes/maia-snowdrop/a432hz-equal-tempered-scale-frequencies/278721692283800?pnref=lhc
  10. Kuba - Great Expectations: I don't know how he does it. He's written so much music and he still manages to surprise me. I love the title track. I'm a fan of his smooth chilled out grooves but for me it becomes really special when he throws some dubstep or trance inspired hardness/darkness into the mix. Man Of No Ego - Web of Life: What a great new project! There is such loving and energised intention behind this music
  11. Aes Dana - Leylines has been there for me on many a psychedelic adventure. When nothing else is bearable, it soothes and challenges simultaneously. Musically speaking, I would trust Aes Dana with my life.
  12. Thanks for the feedback lovelies, it will now be 20:00 - 22:00
  13. Ordinarily I would have gone for Kuba, but I've surprised myself by going for Anilah. I usually dislike lyrical vocals in electronic or semi-electronic music, but I love the ritual quality these two women create between them, and the marriage between live and synthesised instrumentation is also impressive. I find it reminiscent of Tool actually. It's far more expensive than any other track I've bought recently, but I suppose given that it's over 11 mins and involves several live artists that's not bad value...
  14. Trifonic: Creating Compelling Pads http://nextstepaudio.com/pads/trifonic-creating-compelling-pads-via-pyramind/
  15. I'm uploading each show at http://www.mixcloud.com/snowdrop/ straight after - although it's really not very obvious where they are from the website etc. I'll have to sort that, thanks for pointing it out!
  16. Thanks, yeah I was kind of trying to hedge my bets by going for 19:00 - 21:00 as then when it does fall on a Friday/Saturday that does technically allow time to get out for 10pm (though in practice I'm sure that won't happen very often!). Thanks for your insight. I know you have experience in this kind of area and it's vary kind of you to share it
  17. I broadcast a live mix (and usually a guest mix) on the first evening after each new moon (so on variable days of the week each time). At the moment the slot is from 19:00 - 21:00. I'd like to ask: if you were interested in tuning in, would this slot be the most convenient for you, or would a later slot be better? Just to get a better idea Thanks!
  18. Conscious partying at Hamilton House, 21st March, 21:00 - 01:00 An eclectic selection of tunes to get you dancing! Sumptuous chillout space, chai cafe, and more to be confirmed. DJs: - Kevinla - afro-funk - Mark Dub - upfull dub - Snowdrop - psychedelic dubstep and sacred bass - Pickle - uplifting house £7 doors. https://www.facebook.com/events/1563530867235785/ _/\_
  19. Just listening to 'Radial' now. Beautiful grooves! Don't know why I haven't heard your stuff before but I'm very glad I'm hearing it now
  20. I love downtempo but the very first psychedelic genre I fell in love with was breaks, and I always think there is never enough psychedelic drum n bass around - so you can imagine my excitement looking through your output! I'm going to very much enjoy working my way through it Much love, brother!

I started mixing in 2012 and since then I have played out live at magical gatherings including 5DMegaShroom, Earthdance, and the legendary Tribe of Frog. Upcoming gigs in 2015 include Dance in Wonderland (21st February, Bristol), Triplicity festival (1st - 3rd May), and Magikana festival (21st - 27th July). I feel truly blessed to be part of a global family united by love and psychedelic music, and honoured to play my own part in communicating love through this universal language. Namaste brothers and sisters! _/\_
