Lorn reacted to Spinnet (One Arc Degree) in Recommendations for 'Space psybient'?
I think you should give Reflective Frequencies, debut album from Solar Fields, a serious listen. After all these years it still sounds like a marvel in sound design!

Lorn reacted to Motion Drive in Motion Drive - Chill Out Realms (IONO Music) 2016
Well, I thought I keep the post without any additional info's...I'm a newbie to this great forum and homepage.
But of course I can give some background info's for those who care. As you might know, I'm coming from the psytrance and progressive corner, released several albums as Motion Drive, Rumble Pack and Blue Vortex. After many years of dance music, it bored the hell out of me. Now I kind of found my freedom in chill out and downtempo music.
My biggest inspirations and favourite acts are Entheogenic, Shpongle, Ott, Kuba, Kaya Project, Zen Baboon...well, some of the usual suspects I guess I love this world music vibez, ethno stuff...I hope that's heard through out the album
This album took me around two years. Produced as usual in my small home studio, nothing fancy there really.
Well, feedback on the album is most welcome:)

Lorn reacted to noraus in Pad sounds
1) absynth granular sampler - mostly for "higher" pads, load any sample, like, part of your previous track and have fun
like this
2) any fast synth arp blurred completely with all kind of delays, reverse delays, pitch shifters and reverbs - for more "organic" pads (for example if we'll make random apr with sine sound and then add long reverb with 100% wet we'll get CBL-alike gurgling textures)
3) any "classic" synth pad with some modulations and a lot of reverb and eq
4) very rich transient drone sounds can be made with zynaddsubfx vst, if you use windows os

Lorn reacted to timeisart in Ektoplazm
I believe Bandcamp has the power to provide this service of a free psybient distribution site as long as it's harnessed correctly, which is what I've tried to do with the 2016 releases table that I maintain. Just sort the table by the name your price column twice or type "Free" into the search box above the table to only show free/name your price releases.

Lorn reacted to timeisart in news - 2016 - W11 (March 7 - 13) - release of the week poll
Maia, I decided to bring back genres in a more limited fashion so I edited them into this post's spoiler and in the google sheet so future posts will have them as well.
I intend to be very broad with this by classifying releases into one of only three genres: Ambient, Psybient, or Bass. Really this is just to distinguish the Ambient & Bass releases from the Psybient ones, as they are the easiest to tell apart. The Psybient genre tag is meant to be a catch all though and could include such styles as psydub or chillgressive.

Lorn reacted to timeisart in Best of the year 2015 results discussion - Best new artist
In addition to the name of the artist, could you also possibly make the best new artist question have another form that requires a link to any website that proves the artist hasn't released anything prior to the current year, such as a bandcamp, discogs, or soundcloud page? That would make verifying much easier.
As for the preselection task, we could add another column to the 2016 releases google sheet that you could type "New Artist" into for every release by a new artist, then at the end of the year just sort the table by that column to group them all together.
I'd say the artist's first official release (album/EP/maybe singles but I'd rather not include them) must be from the current year and not before.

Tribone, Cloower Wooma, Mystic Crock, Stereomantra, Rakoon, Sixis and Stimulous Timbre released albums or EPs before 2015. I don't mean to take anything away from these artists' achievements, it's just that, what's the criterion to be included in this category if not the fact that your first release was in 2015?

Lorn reacted to AnimalSpirit in When did you start listening to psybient / psychill music?
I guess I was listening to psychill before it even existed; as I was thinking about the topic, I remembered my reaction when first listening to Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene (1976) and later Equinox (1978) albums, in my opinion most of today's electronic music is derivative from these two album (could have mention Zoolook as well). From then on I was always looking for these atmospheres and layering in the music I was listening to, this is also when my eternal hunger for new music started and I'm still starving.....
My first contact with music labelled as psychill was like many others, thru Shpongle's Are you Shpongled?, specifically Divine Moments of Truth, the changes of pace throughout the song had a magical effect on me. It's very paradoxal that I discovered Children of the bong only last month..... it only shows how deep this scene is.

Lorn reacted to Shpongle in When did you start listening to psybient / psychill music?
Two completely different projects, Celtic Cross and Shpongle....by the way, Mystery Of The Yeti(Simon Posford) and Infinity Project(Raja Ram) are also two projects you should check out if you haven't yet

Lorn reacted to floyd2.0 in news - 2016 - W10 (February 29 - March 6) - release of the week poll
Tikki Masala = yeah i'm going to be chauvinistic this time i think it's the first time a belgian producer made it into this poll ) So he get's my first vote! David Starfire = great bassmusic! Side Liner & Aviron = massive sound! about EE: it is great music, i'm not gonna argue about it, but... it has that melancholic, darkish side to it...
personally psy-music must be relaxing and uplifting, that is my personal opinion -
