Dear Friends!  I would like to present a very special album to you! Unlike my previous works that were inspired by specific ideas and influences, the “33†album is the epitome of my experiences on Earth as a human being. It is about little victories and disappointing misfortunes, about things thriving and passing, about falling in love and falling apart that I have witnessed. Ultimately, this album is the collection of things immaterial that I’ve carefully gathered and became during thirty-three rotations around the Sun. And I would like to share them all with you! I hope these melodies will evoke long-forgotten memories that will wash over you with warm nostalgia!  Sincerely yours,  Dmitriy AstroPilot

    Hey all,

    Just joined.

I'm a wannabe producer...more accurately a dabbler. But here to learn and I love the genre as a listener.

I use this PC for business as well as music and it would be a disaster to lose the data, it's my life's work.

    Here is my backup strategy:

It is based on a propriety  backup program called Macrium Reflect. (There is a free version) Reflect can do scheduled incremental backups which means that the entire 400 Gbytes of data on my HDD do not have to be copied over when I do a backup. Only changes since the most recent backup are copied each day. These scheduled backups are performed with no intervention required from me and usually take just a few minutes. Also, the incremental method means that I have a day by day record of changes for the previous month and can roll the entire system back to a previous state using image restore. Alternatively, the program allows file/folder restores to any previous backup increment.

Each month I rotate my external USB backup media and consolidate the 30 or so daily increments from the month into a new full backup and then start over with the increments. Since this can take a few hours I let it run overnight. Currently, I have 2 backup drives but the procedure would work with any number. I store one of the backup drives offsite just in case of a disaster such as flood/fire/theft.

It sounds complex but it mostly runs itself apart from the monthly USB external drive swap which takes a few seconds.

    Hope this helps someone.

I think tracklists should always be published with the mix. Most of the points said in earlier posts but as a small artists I can add that it makes a great deal to see your track in a tracklist of a DJ set

Update: On Tuesday night, after this post, I had another look at my back-up arrangements. By default, I had my NAS drive set to not back-up temporary files.  However, Ableton's *.asd files share the same extension as temporary MS Word documents, so that is why they weren't backing up.  I turned on the back-up for temp files and they all backed up within 15 minutes.

    Win!

Ghost Label records is happy to announce the release of the tenth full-length album from the eccentric producer Open source. The release comes with 9 newly edited tracks in psychill style, but it also explores psydub, dubstep & industrial breaks. By breaking all barriers, Open Source imprints different kinds of down-tempo music on his own psychedelic style. Every song is full of feeling and ritual vibes that will guide you through your inner self and outward into the universe, a universe of heavy drum-sets, outlandish reverberations and mystical melodies.

maybe it will be called - VA - psybient.org compilation volume 1 ....

We are all creating this project together, so i am curious to know your ideas and visions ....

Shipping costs and VAT makes it sometimes too expensive to buy music... I'd love to buy more music but paying 24% VAT (to Finland where I'm from) on digital music makes no sense...
I haven't bought CD's for a long time anymore so no experience on shipping costs...

Wow, I need to thank you for mentioning these. I am surprised these slipped by my sights since they look like nice quality plugins for free.

Well the most obvious thing is that the strings do not reach out into higher frequencies. So either using the right waveform or filter settings will give you a good start. Also the strings are two sounds in my opinion, the higher one goes higher as the lower (more bass-y) goes lower in the progression, so you need to keep that in mind. It has longer release, which makes it overlap itself, there's also probably some lfo modulation (maybe for velocity?) with speed that alternates, or it's phasing (but I don't really think it actually is phasing) or it's just the effect of unison. The waveform could be from a wavetable plugin, but I can't really tell, though the harmonics aren't very even. Maybe the the lower one is a saw that has a stable low pass (no keytracking) with a sine wave that is one octave lower to provide bass, but I'm just speculating. I'm pretty sure you could get this sound if you were to use serum, it's just a very capable and flexible plugin. Also definitely use unison for this one, play around with it. Also, of course use a nice reverb, but that's probably very obvious. And lastly maybe chorus can help you to achieve this sound. Overal though your best bet is to look at this sound in spectrum analyzer and spectogram and see what the harmonic information is and use that (and your ears of course) as a guide.

Maybe some HG Fortune's plugins could have some wavetables that could sound alike, or any wave-table plugin. Honestly I think you could achieve this in many substantive synths like Sytrus, or additive like Harmor, all you need is an option to manipulate the oscillator more precisely. But it's definitely all about having the right wave form, separating each sound into it's correct frequency range, using correct spatial tools (unison, chorus, reverb and etc. (also the lower frequencies could benefit from being more mono)) and just tweaking it a lot.

Hi! And welcome to the forum

I can't listen the sample right now but I'd start with DSK Music instruments. Most of them are free and can create quite nice orchestral sounds. Some DSK plugins are what I use quite often
