schofield got a reaction from Trala Lama in Importance of backup's
Update: On Tuesday night, after this post, I had another look at my back-up arrangements. By default, I had my NAS drive set to not back-up temporary files.  However, Ableton's *.asd files share the same extension as temporary MS Word documents, so that is why they weren't backing up.  I turned on the back-up for temp files and they all backed up within 15 minutes.

    Win!

Liquid Bloom - Re:Generations is a good listen.  Would have preferred un-mixed tracks though - or at least the option of un-mixed tracks.

Haven't listened to Chris Komas' EP yet, but his music is usually pretty good.

Sure it would, Schofield! If it works, it works. What matters is the music we play and not the gear we use

hehe... i forgot downtempo in there.  ah well.  yeah, every now and again something catches my fancy and suddenly i find myself down a rabbit hole with a whole lot of new music of different styles.  happens every few years i reckon.  i always come back to other styles i have liked tho.  just expanding my palette i guess.

Kalya Scintilla will always get my vote, unless he does something really unpleasant and unexpected.

Haven't heard much of the other stuff.

schofield got a reaction from Shpongle in Has the genre been getting worse or better over time?
Well, Shpongle would say that Shongle's album is the best psybient album ever made.

Don't the oldies always say the old music was better?  Maybe it is just perspective, and the ties that bond us to music in our past are stronger than what we feel for the newer music.  When we were younger (I'm nearly 42) we were impressionable and going through big changes finding our places in the world.  The music I listened to 15 or so years ago definitely made its mark on me and brings up feelings when I hear it today.

So the genre is probably still fresh for new, younger ears.

Anyway, I listen to less 'psybient' these days than I used to.  I suppose my tastes have broadened as well over the years.  I it's all swings and roundabouts - falling in and out of love with different genres at different times, going and coming again.  That's why I rarely sell my old CDs, because sometimes I go back to the old ones and have a listen and enjoy them, and reminisce.

In was excited for Tor's new album.  Haven't listened properly yet tho.

The Dreamstalker EP seems pretty good on first listen.  Merkaba is still a favourite label for me.  Waiting for the new Kalya Scintilla release on 17 June (or thereabouts).

The Clozee remix album has some tracks on it I like.

Still been listening to lots of andean electronic folk latin slomo techno world music, to borrow some tags from one of the releases, and tropical oriental tribal deep house-y stuff on the side, or the main, really at the moment.  Loving that stuff!  Anyway, I digress...

    2. Medicine Fox & Diversity in the Isles: great layed back bass music
    3. Smörgasbord vol. 2: Psiarrhea: Dispite the nasty coversheet of this release, some good tunes in this VA!

schofield got a reaction from Lorn in Soundcloud going bust?
I would be sad to see Soundcloud go.  I used to pay the subscription (3 euro per month) but after a couple of years the copyright started to bite and I couldn't upload most dj mixes I wanted to without getting them rejected. So I cancelled my subscription as is was useless to me.    Since then I have had more luck getting mixes uploaded, avoiding tracks in the mix that are more likely to trip the copyright issue.

Anyway, now the subscription to Pro is around 10 euro per month ($16 AU) and I find that a bit steep.  If it was cheaper I'd re-subscribe now, I think.

The first time I heard of swamp whomp was in reference to Dirtwire.  A cross between bluegrass and bass music.  Although maybe that's also what grass hop is, but less bassier.

I tend to get confused by genres a little also, and have always thought that what I understand to be a specific genre may not be what someone else considers.

This is fairly 'swampy', and probably one of the most psychedelic tracks I have ever heard (when completely straight!) :

    (play it loud!)

This is my first time playing with the Touchable app on my iPad Mini as a controller for Ableton.  I bought it the other day so I can use my laptop to play some tunes while we are away camping after Christmas.  Have to say, I really, really like it.  So much so that I might even sell my APC40 at some point and buy an old full-size iPad (Gen 1 or 2) to use instead - but it's early days.

As for the music, I've been getting into some South American folk-infused electronic music lately, ever since I came across Nicola Cruz's Colibra track.  And it's coming into Summer here in Melbourne so it's the perfect music for warm weather.
