timeisart reacted to YuriNondual in ishq - virtual series. A little bit of freeflow thoughts
When ishq started releasing a lot of albums, that didn't sound as musical as his previous more new age work, I was a little bit upset, I was waiting for ishq music more like Orchid, Sama or And awake to trip to. But as time passed and I listened to it more I got into it a bit more, and recenlty with a release of last 2 virtual albums (Strange nebula and Moonship) I finally got it. So I wrote a little bit of thoughts to exmplain his virtual series to other people who are attached to his early ishq releases.

Matt Hillier is Cornwall based electronic music artist, he makes music for 20 years, he is best known for his new age ambient releases like Orchid or Sama but today we are not going to talk about them.

Music of Matt Hillier has many similarities with other art forms and particularly with paintings. When you first visit an art gallery, usually you like bold and familiar paintings. Maybe it’s a sunny landscape or a portrait of a beautiful person. It’s simple, it’s familiar. But as you dive deeper into a world of art and it’s history you start to appreciate finer details. Maybe this painting is unusually abstract for it’s period of time, or maybe it gives you a feeling of being home, or being alone or being content. So a painting can act as a storage, a flash drive or a time crystal of sorts, containing a whole spectrum of emotions and memories that you never had. These small details and intricacies come hand in hand with refined taste to art. But it’s not just art actually, even take a simple beverage like tea for example. First you like big and bold taste of black tea with milk and sugar perhaps? But if you keep exploring different teas and tastes and how it makes you feel you can easily discover whole universe here. Different states of mind that different types of tea can bring you to.

Now if we come back to music of Matt Hillier. As you dig deeper into his discography you are quick to discover some releases that are not musical as such, they are a sound collages or sonic paintings made of various sound forms, each form can send you to a different location. From underwater wonder to deep space exploration and beyond. Experience life from a perspective of a plant or an insect, or completely unimaginable, yet to be discovered lifeform. It is all here available to you if you allow it, with your headphones on.

timeisart got a reaction from ancientrealms in W2 2018 Releases Update - January 1-7
I decided to change up a few things this year, namely there will no longer be any polls, weekly or monthly. Instead I want to start doing a highlight system based on comments people make about releases.

So if anyone comments saying they like a certain release (either in my weekly threads or threads of individual release posts), then that release will be highlighted in the big 2018 release table. I'll also highlight releases at my discretion.

Instead of having the 1st, 2nd, 3rd ranking system that the 2017 Releases Table currently has, the 2018 table will just have a single “Featured†ranking, probably just in the form of a Featured filtering menu with yes/no options similar to the Name Your Price filter. I’m also trying to figure out an easy way to make the row itself be highlighted a different color in the table to make it stand out as you scroll through it.

Sorry if you liked the poll system but it was starting to be too much work for not a lot of votes and I didn't want to get burned out so let's change it up for now.

Absolutely agree with this. Only given it two listens now but it definitely grew on me more the second time around. I think before the first listen I had once again hyped myself up too much after hearing the (imo amazing) Oneiroi bonus track they released before the full album came out, which I thought was a very accessible track that made the album seem very weirdly psychedelic in comparison.

But the beauty of psychedelic music is that your perception of it can vary greatly depending on your mood and mindset that you bring into the listening session. So once I had let go of the expectations I had on the first listen it seemed to flow better the 2nd time around.

I've heard the Spacelines album but it's been a while, I recall it being very Ozrics-ish but more chill.. will have to give it a re-listen sometime.

No idea, all in Gio's hands, but having worked on almost everything he's done since 2010, I'd guess not before the end of the year. Could be wrong though! Working on it all week so far, is amazing! Very hard hitting contemporary club vibe, compared to the Makyo stuff.

Yeah I was late finding that one since Bandcamp didn't send me a notification for it (I think because it's a CD only release maybe?). I had to just randomly stumble upon it while I was on Altar Records' bandcamp page for some other reason.
I am sure there have been a few other releases that I've missed this year due to not receiving release notification emails from Bandcamp. One thing I've noticed is that no notifications are sent out for releases that are set to "free download" (not just name your price). If any artists see this who are considering posting their music as free downloads on Bandcamp, set it to Name Your Price instead because otherwise your fans who follow you may never know that you posted the release to begin with because they didn't receive a notification.

Off topic: I think it's common to get that "heard it all before" feeling when you become experienced in a genre. I've had it myself once, thank god it didn't last too long. The beauty of our music can help you overcome the familiarity, unless you want something monumental to keep your interest.

I absolutely adore Shpongle, as I do the bulk of Simon's work, and I really enjoyed Empty Branes. I try not to have high hopes though. That way if it is an excellent album I'll be even more pleased.

On topic: I enjoyed Argus' album, although it's typical Altar fare. The Logical Elements EP was also good.
The Fourth Dimension album is a bit too ambient for my mood these days, needs a bit of a special frame of mind to be appreciated, as do most Synphaera releases.

Some of the releases of artists I follow haven't grabbed my attention so far, like Mystic Crock & Dense and Spectrum Vision.

timeisart got a reaction from yiannis in What does "live" mean?
Same here. Although there is something to be said for seeing a live band creating music with actual instruments, knowing that it is a unique, ephemeral experience that will never be replicated the exact same way again and once it's done it's gone forever.

As for live electronic music (or shall I say computer produced music?), it's honestly a mystery to me how they are making the sounds live, I'd like to suspend disbelief and think they are triggering sounds at certain times instead of just essentially pressing the play button. But in those times I find myself focusing more on the actual music than actually watching the person behind the laptop, so it doesn't really matter how it's done.

new Shpongle! can't wait to hear the full album (out October 23rd). Empty Branes is surprisingly good and I think this album will be way better than Museum Of Consciousness was. This along with Carbon Based Lifeforms - Derelicts will make October a hell of a month!

ha yeah really slow, although there's always a few bass releases that get thrown out for being too abrasive dubstep and not enough psy, and I think I had very little patience for those this week lol.
