Everything looked different and you're trying not to stick out? That's what this is to me. I've been writing reviews over at Psynews.org for a long time and was invited by someone to post them over here. I resisted because I had become so comfortable and was afraid to try something new. Like when my kid first tried the butternut squash fries I made. I thought he was gonna have a heart attack. Funny story now he loves them. But yeah I suppose I finally decided to post a review here because I'm hoping there will be more of a response. Psynews is great, but man over the last few years it's like talking to the furniture. Now I realize there might be some Psynewsers here and if so...sup. You know my style. Perhaps there isn't a lot of traffic here and it'll be just as sleepy. Let's find out. This is the latest offering from Michael Allison a fellow countryman from the USA. I don't know much of his older material (or really any of his music) and to be honest I don't listen to a lot of ambient stuff. So...take this for what it's worth. You get 11 tracks of soft, relaxing ambient and downtempo music. Shocker I know, but stay with me. There are no dark atmospheres or harsh sounds just the smooth touch of an optimistic friend. The vibe is positive and the sun is always visible. Some of the shorter tracks seem like small vignettes to pull the whole thing together. At times it strays into drone territory or skirts the tribal zone. Mostly beatless, the melodies are uplifting and comforting. It's like an Israeli and a Palestinian look at each other and say, "What the f*ck were we fighting for?" and then skip off holding hands into the sunset. That's some happy positive sh*t. And this is hopeful and bright and let's be clear, a bit thin. Not cheesy, but not intricate or lush either. I enjoyed it, but it's not something I would seek out. Life's too short to spend it on music that doesn't stir the soul. So there you go Psybient.org. Hope you enjoyed my first review here. If you did let me know. If you didn't that's cool too.
