My opinion of Mr.Ott and his Music

I  went through a few posts and I felt the duty of mine to speak up my mind. It  is not an order or anything mean. I had spoke about him in my zero visit blog, nothing really personal, but I felt I should speak out a little louder, so that things would not go a direction that I am not intended...

 

Before I start, I had a warning. Psychedelic electronic music is all about spirituality and the universe cosmos, and I must say I knew certain spirit fairly well to know its existence on this forum, I respect Gagarin's good wish and not to make this place another battleground. Peace and love, it is a goal, and it is a fairly good and justified request, so this post is not about counterattack who and who, it is a position I want to make it loud and clear so as not to let gossip fly around! I might sound like talking to thin air without any base, but backstabbing in the dark is not exactly some new invention in this world.

 

I didn't know who Mr.Ott really is except the guesswork from his music, and even when I started this post, I still don't know who he is, until the last moment of this soul connection revelation thing, (I do not need you to contact Mr.Ott or his family to confirm anything.)  And that is the point I want to make! I make this little speech for people who has a real heart and real respect for peace and love... you can just ignore me if you are not interested/offended/(any other negative feelings...), this minute... PLEASE!!! thank you!

 

OK, let's start! Let me first introduce this person I would call Mr.Alter Ott, you know soul can have one body in UK and another body in Hong Kong, and I am sure a lot more in other places... and when I got this little information about Mr.Alter Ott, my immediate impression is: that is for sure Mr.Ott's soul, though I had not a clue before hand.

Mr.Alter Ott and his family lives very close to me. I don't think I knew their heart and soul very much at all, but I knew they are very private person, keep things to themselves, to an extraordinary level... but they are nice people, I occasionally saw Mr.Alter Ott hang about with some business people, but nothing particular... they are really just very quiet, and polite people... the little touristy village we live in are going through some epic level of fights between justice and wickedness, all sorts of schemes, magics, not only humans, animals are very much involved, (I am not talking in that altered state of consciousness, I has no budget or mood for any drugs, and I had been declared very sane by numerous Ivy-league level psychiatric specialists already... but I am not that stupid to laugh at their lack of spirituality expertise here.) But Mr.Alter Ott and his family are not involved... At least, I had no complaint against them... It is completely fine and it is very wise not to get involved... From my opinion, those who are eager to get involved, turned out always on the wrong side... well, maybe they should learn from Mr.Alter Ott and his family...

 

But there is some new development that Mr.Alter Ott couldn't just lock his door and wish people leave them alone.... Being left alone is not always something you can just wish for.... yes,  same like peace and love..... but I will not discuss it here.

 

Now I will go back to Mr.Ott the real one, body and soul. The origin of my post was from isratrance forum and I had read Mr.Ott's personal reply. He was angry, and I agree with him more or less, when I reread the points he highlighted....  I talked about Mr.Ott's music and his personality in my little blog... I believe he is a good man and he is very devoted... I can confirm that both from his alter ego Mr. and his isratrance reply.

 

All of us can talk about our own opinions, and it is nicer to have honest criticism rather than fake compliments... in the meantime, you have to be aware some malicious attacks.... I don't want to distinguish the two commenters too much, but I would say one is quite honest, the other, is rather disingenuous..

 

We live and we work and we have our own hope, dream in life. It is a wonderful thing that you can live your life doing things you like. But then it is a career thing, and as a career, you can't just experiment as you wish, you have responsibility, don't you agree?! And responsibility is a very heavy vocabulary not a lot people in this world are capable of.... Truly, I mean every word of it.

 

And Mr.Ott is a responsible man! I can see his family are very much in trust of him and if he thinks about taking better care of his family and making his music, not just for himself, but for his career, his family,  I don't see anything wrong at all. But I would say, love, sometimes can be a burden to both parties, it makes the responsibility much heavier than it really should be! Well, that would be a very complicated subject and I am not going to divert.

 

Of course, Mr.Ott is a very proud man, and I doubt he will agree with me. But I do think his music is great! I like his fairchildren album, the sound is very mature, and very detailed. And I rather like his cover, a fairy girl playing with her knife and fork, and a witchy monster is just around to pounce, it really reminds me of my own situation, now that I really paid attention... thank you for such a fair reflection! (If that was the case though.) I knew that monster so well, but this post is not about her! Yes, that monster has a gender! (PS: I just heard some banging in distance, that monster is still alive and kicking, (her own American slogan), and telling me its disapproval of dragging her into this post, monster witch understands protecting her own justice and fairness more than accurate, but that's about it.)

Anyway, my final words is that I wish people will leave Mr.Ott and his family alone. He has been doing quite well, better than I thought if you think about Mr.Ott's true identity. But I guess it is not something we can control, I can already visualize some journalists hanging around Mr.Ott's house and waiting for some more "juicy" tidbits. At least Mr.Ott has real substance, comparing to a lot of those super-super pop stars! Maybe Mr.Ott and his family should prepare some P.R. speeches or just hide about again!(I like the latter idea)  They are very very good at hiding! I can assure everyone, they might concern about their career, but not bandcamp chart! Not at all! They are not greedy, and they do not really seek fame! They just want peace and a fairly good life!

I think that is the point I was trying to make in a couple of other posts on the subject.  Opinions.  About the music.  

 

To say an artist has sold out, or is burnt out, or not trying, whathaveyou, seems to me to be playing the person and not the ball (i.e. the music itself).   Our tastes change over time, as do we, and so does an artist's.  Sometimes their music stays too much the same for us, and other times the music is not the same enough and we don't like the direction they are going in.  But it's all really relative to our own direction we find ourselves headed in.  It's not good or bad.  Maybe it can be disappointing - kiss the winged joy and all that - but other times it's pleasing to go along with them.

Anyway while im here, my opinion on Ott is a lot more simple... He is a muscial genius whose music grows, improves, matures and expands the more and more you listen to it. The type of tracks that you can listento 30 times and then on listen 31 you here or feel something completly new.

The production value is phenomenal and technically outstanding. One of the few artists that makes super-polished sounds that still feel organic and rich by nature. It's like I can taste and feel the textures or it, whilst it remains clean and particular. Not an easy thing to do in modern music in my opinion.

 

Each album offers something different and is always unique. I find it sometimes impossible to descrive Ott to someone as the influences are too wide and too diverse, and this again is something that should be celebrated. If you ask people "what is the best Ott album" you will get many different responses; the true sign of a special artist...

Agree with all of this. I don't know what the OP is going on about? ... Ott is a fantastic guy, have had the pleasure of chatting with him a few times. His t-shirts say "Be Nice To Each Other", nuff said!

i recently spent a day with headphones on, on the web, listening to loads of recent electronic psy music. something i haven't done in ages.  very enjoyable and discovered much.  but  when i got back to checking out the new ott stuff, in comparison, it just sits at another level, musically and production wise.

 

as schofield so rightly said, it's about music rather than personalities.  i don't think you can infer too much about the personality of someone from their music. you can infer something.....but that's going to be a pretty shallow interpretation.

What I've picked up from reading interviews with him is that it sounds like he makes music to please himself only, which is the genuine and honest approach to music production in my opinion. When art is made just for art's sake it produces a higher level of quality than music that panders to the wants of the masses for a quick buck. So Ott's a good guy in my book.

 

That being said, I do find it slightly annoying from a music collector's point of view that he doesn't reveal what his real name is. It may just be a case like Cher who only goes by one name but doesn't he have a last name? I thought it was Grover Smith for a while from his Hikikomori alias but I read somewhere that he said that's not his name.
