schofield 52 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 just noticed that bandcamp limits the number of time you can listen to a "unpurchased" album. i was abusing Don Peyote last album, and after 2-3 full plays it blocked me proposing to purchase. I get these pop-ups only very occasionally on my computer, but they don't seem to stop me streaming the albums and tracks. There's albums on there that I have listened to many times over without buying them (not sure what I am waiting for - sometimes it takes me a long time to decide to purchase, other times I purchase straight away). I think it enforces the limit on mobile devices tho (unless someone says otherwise)

Personally i don't have a fixed opinion on the copyright and pircacy subject. Both can be good and harm a lot. Lorn 74 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 now Apple also turned evil with Apple Music streaming service Not just evil...the devil incarnate. https://blog.vellumatlanta.com/2016/05/04/apple-stole-my-music-no-seriously/ Be careful using this service. I have read, once you click the accept terms the software actually searches your hard drives and any connected devices to determine if you have music which Apple considers to have available on their streaming service, then, it deletes it from your hard drive. Read that again. This is simply illegal. But until the sheeple stand up and say enough, the abuse of power and destruction/theft of our personal property will continue. You cannot possibly know this is what you are accepting with agreeing to the terms. Online life, connected life is very useful and productive, however people need to be enlightened about certain things. We are getting reamed by the media giants and the communication providers. And the law enforcers seem to be on their side. Stop giving total access to your personal data to these companies. They use it for profit and the information belongs to you, not them. Demand the ability to turn off location services from your apps or stop using them. Demand the ability to deny any permission to apps that you deem it doesn't need. Maybe I'm just an old fart and lost in time. If that is true, you'll be rid of me one of these days.

So far I've been subscribing for Soundcloud pro account and making a yearly donation to Ektoplazm And have to admit that I've never bought anything from beatport. Shame it's going bankrupt though. schofield 52 Report post Posted May 12, 2016 I don't know how beatport can be going under, they charge like wounded bulls! Maybe that's their problem, prices to high and number of customers too low. I'm guessing Bandcamp doesn't have that problem. I only buy from beatport as a last resort, if no-one else cheaper stocks the particular tracks I want. They do have a great range, I have to admit. Gagarin Project 400 Report post Posted January 27, 2017 some news about bandcamp and streaming Everything is Terrific: The Bandcamp 2016 Year in Reviewhttps://daily.bandcamp.com/2017/01/24/everything-is-terrific-the-bandcamp-2016-year-in-review/ most interesting parts: Bandcamp’s business was up in 2016. Digital album sales grew 20%, tracks 23%, and merch 34%. Growth in physical sales was led by vinyl, which was up 48%, and further boosted by CDs (up 14%) and cassettes (up 58%) .... The record business overall did not fare as well. According to Nielsen, it grew 3% in the U.S. in 2016, while sales of digital albums fell 20%, tracks were down 25%, and physical albums dropped 14%. These declines are not at all surprising given the industry-wide push toward subscription music rental offerings, and indeed as the year came to a close, those services reached a combined 100 million paying subscribers. .... As more people subscribe to music rental services, the already paltry rates paid to artists are going down (and no, artists don’t necessarily make it up in volume). But it’s not only artists who are struggling. more @ https://daily.bandcamp.com/2017/01/24/everything-is-terrific-the-bandcamp-2016-year-in-review/ 2 Phase47 and Flexagon reacted to this
