Gagarin Project 400 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 some people say "psychill is dead ?" .... i have read this phrase several times in last years..... personally.... i don't feel this way and really curious why some people my think this..... what i notice of course is : - we might have "loose" several labels and artist, - it is harder to find gems as much more music is released - "cd format" is not working as a quality filter anymore. personally i enjoy the scene as much as ever, i follow and meet many great artist online and at festivals, we still have our place in the psytrance festival space. and of course having an active community gathered around psybient.org , forum.psybient.org and reddit.com/r/Psybient/ give me feeling of not being a "lone" wolf. what are your thoughts ? yiannis 201 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 I agree with you Gagarin. There's even Samsara, based around psychill. I guess people might mean there's not much progress in the scene for them. Or it might have changed too much from what they originally loved? It might just be that some people lose connection with the music, they move on. It happened with me and rock/metal. BTW Samsara looks awesome from the couple of videos I've seen. Maybe I should start saving now for the 2018 one.
floyd2.0 113 Report post Posted December 17, 2016 no music style ever dies, it's evolving, it's as simple as that to me. people who say things like that are a bit short sighted i think 1 Psilopylot reacted to this
timeisart 170 Report post Posted December 18, 2016 I think the 1,200+ psy downtempo releases this year speaks for itself, it's still going strong.. but since a good bit of those are of the psybass variety, many of the original psybient lovers may be alienated by the way part of the scene has evolved as has been said. but it's not all uniform, there's still plenty of good actual psybient coming out of labels like Microcosmos, Mystic Sound and Altar Records that should satisfy most chillers. There doesn't seem to be an ambition of psybient artists to expand into the mainstream to convince skeptics that it's not "dead". Personally I prefer that it remains underground because once large amounts of money get involved music tends to turn to shit. 1 Lorn reacted to this
Suttree 2 Report post Posted December 19, 2016 Over just a few months this year, the following stunning psychill albums have been released (I've just picked a few best). Notably, some of them are debut efforts! Is psychill dead? No, it is alive and well https://thebeatsbizarre.bandcamp.com/album/infernal-machines-moving-parts-e-p-2 https://pranasonics.bandcamp.com/album/a-substitute-for-love https://stephigh.bandcamp.com/album/celestial-colors-24bits https://the-flying-mars.bandcamp.com/album/vibradimensional-experience-24bits https://greatowl.bandcamp.com/album/texiopaxoui
Lorn 74 Report post Posted December 19, 2016 but since a good bit of those are of the psybass variety, many of the original psybient lovers may be alienated by the way part of the scene has evolved as has been said. This is probably the biggest reason some might say psychill is dead. I for one would prefer to see psybass go into its own direction and separate from psychill. 2 Suttree and Psilopylot reacted to this
arakoon 17 Report post Posted December 20, 2016 This is probably the biggest reason some might say psychill is dead. I for one would prefer to see psybass go into its own direction and separate from psychill. I agree with you and the second reason is that a lot of classic psychic record labels are not working or releasing other style of music now so it's very hard to find new talanted musicians for even djs and much harder to simple listeners
Gagarin Project 400 Report post Posted December 24, 2016 and the second reason is that a lot of classic psychic record labels are not working or releasing other style of music now maybe this is the reason, we did lost some good labels and artist. the first that comes in mind is : AlephZero and Celestial Dragon p.s. we have a good list of labels here => http://www.psybient.org/love/labels-psychill-ambient-psydub-psybient-psychedelic-downtempo/ 2 yiannis and thanosp81 reacted to this
Solastalgia 8 Report post Posted February 8, 2017 Eye think "death" is a relative term, idea, and innerstanding. So to some folks psychill is dead because they don't listen anymore. Or it is dead because their old idea and relationship to it has completely changed (read: evolved). I think the former is less likely than the latter. People who talk about psychill being dead likely still listen, but miss their old relationship with it. Maybe they miss that part of themself when they were listening back then. Fortunately this style of music aides in retrieving these lost pieces of our soul so that we can become whole. Eye think psychill is what it is and always what you make of it. Just as life is. Music is life. Life never dies unless if you perceive it as such. Eye like to think it's always just evolving and transforming which comes shrouded in the illusion of "death".
