Aha, the poll discussion proves its value once again - I would have totally missed Adham Shaikh - great release, thanks guys :)

I'd also like to recommend Keziah for any bass and distortion fans out there - this is a seriously inventive EP and surprisingly coherent structurally and pleasing musically, given its weirdness!

To encourage more participants in the weekly forum we decided to gift participants music from our label partners !

to participate  in the "giveaway":
- make a vote.
- write a small comment about your choice.

We start this week, so both snowdrop and timeisart have 50% chance to get a release to their collection :)

p.s. any idea how to replace word competition in my post?

A lot of releases there, and most artists I have never heard of.  The only one I have bought over the last week is the Nanda release on Merkaba.  Really like it.  I assume this is the same Nanda that released on Muti Music a few years back.

I will have to listen further to Adham Shaikh's album.  I haven't heard of Chrisna Karast before, so will listen to his too.

I've listened to the entire Forgotten Future album (actually just purchased the 24-bit flac) - to me this music is on a whole other level. Yes you can hear the Ultimae influence and the production quality is superb but what gets me is the extreme uncategorizableness (is that a word?) of this release. It feels psybient in general but has pure ambient tracks and also lots of acid sounds but no trance. Gets epic in 4-5 tracks but again, no trance. Vangelis comes to mind but there is no new age. Spacey psy, yes, but what about track #9 that to me is closer to some Rone tracks than anything psy. Even John Carpenter's minimalism seems to show up here and there.

My point: listen IN FULL to get an accurate picture of this album.

I was debating between it and Keziah's Angel, but when it comes to the "new" in "best new release of the week" imho forgotten future passes with flying colors and leaves me wanting more (luckily 3 more parts are coming, this one is the first of a 4-part series, according to their website). Gets my vote for awesome feel, production quality, and especially, character/originality.

I couldn't have it said better. I'm always in the lookout for a new sound, experimental, but without the loss of emotional content. Forgotten future is fresh, unique - and happens to be a new project of one of my all-time favorite composers:) Another long-time favorite of mine, Lars Leonhard's release didn't surprise me, but it features great textures and lots of gentle percussion. The type of album that I stop critically listening to after 5 minutes, but the gentle sounds surround me even when I'm not only exclusively paying attention to it. Although not as intricate as forgotten future, it's a great mood-generator.

The two releases are very different yet I would put them next to one another on my shelf... which is organized by sub-sub-genres, rather than feel. I gave my vote to both.

Hehe cool :)

How about 'giveaway' instead of 'competition'? Is that more what you mean?
