psydub 17 Report post Posted June 25, 2015 Ive just discovered this sub genre after doing Youtube searches a couple of months ago.what are your thoughts on it?
Gagarin Project 400 Report post Posted June 25, 2015 in the psybient/psydownempo there happen to be a lot of psydub elements. As for me the good example of "psydub" is Androcell. However i believe there are many artist who exclusively do psydub music. i like it a lot, it is nice background for afternoon sessions in sun. p.s. you can check for psydun tags in the releases listings for 2014 and 2015. http://www.psybient.org/love/2014-releases-psychill-ambient-downtempo/ http://www.psybient.org/love/2015-releases-psychill-ambient-downtempo/
yiannis 201 Report post Posted June 25, 2015 I like it. Mostly artists who don't go under the bass music label, like Bluetech, Ott, Youth's projects, D. Batistatos, Don Peyote, Dr Psycedelic, Androcell, Globular and so on. In general I prefer it as spacy as possible, like Hallucinogen in Dub. Not too keen on the overused ganja and rastafari references. Up until some time ago I had come to consider the genre too uniform and predictable, but thankfully I've got over that and enjoy it again. It makes perfect sense in hot countries like mine for some reason, as does reggae.
psydub 17 Report post Posted June 25, 2015 I actually like the Rasta references. The music is a continuation of dub music, which is part of Rasta culture. I use the music as forefathers like Lee Perry, & King Tubby as music to smoke and meditate to. 1 Gagarin Project reacted to this
Gagarin Project 400 Report post Posted June 25, 2015 Thievery Corporation and Scratch Lee Perry prepared me to the world of ambient/psy/downtempo/dub music. Have a listen of Jah Acid Dub, he is close to roots.
psydub 17 Report post Posted June 25, 2015 I listened to his latest album and was blown away! Androcell is another producer that I can get into. 1 Alchemist reacted to this

Flying Lotus 23 Report post Posted June 26, 2015 i love psydub, specially Don Peyote and Androcell. if you like Dub sounds check also kukan dub lagan. Personally i don't think is very "psy", but heis definetely a part of psy-chill "scene" and a common guest at psytrance festivals. 1 psydub reacted to this

tuculuxu 29 Report post Posted June 29, 2015 Hey, Psydub is great! Love it :-). For starters adding to other references that were given earlier in this topic, you can explore this page: http://www.ektoplazm.com/style/psy-dub You can explore different downtempo genre while listenning to this amazing compilation: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/dj-basilisk-the-colours-of-ektoplazm Ethneomystica VA are particularly good, I love Globular. Ott is of course a fav (staring with Hallucinogen in Dub, and others, and soon another album). You can find more or less tribal psydub there: https://shantiplanti.bandcamp.com/ And this is a label focused on psydub: https://dubmission.bandcamp.com/ Enjoy :-) 2 Trala Lama and Jatab reacted to this
Jatab 44 Report post Posted June 29, 2015 Hey, Psydub is great! Love it :-). Agree in 100 %, me too You could check also albums from LSD - Liquid Sound Design label - you can find many good stuff in psydub style there eg. last album of Suns of Arqa http://www.discogs.com/label/978-LSD-Liquid-Sound-Design check albums on bandcamp by genre http://bandcamp.com/tag/psydub?artist=4104519345 There are many ways to find something interesting apart artists from above posts, like for eg. tuculuxu 29 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 check albums on bandcamp by genre http://bandcamp.com/tag/psydub?artist=4104519345 Haha this search is kinda overwhelming! But I didn't even try like this :-)! I'll probably find new good albums! I like this album of Ashtech released on Interchill as well, I think it deserves a mention: https://interchill.bandcamp.com/album/walkin-target I guess there are already too many references anyway! For non-French (I don't know how famous he is outside), the singer with the moustache hiding in the song and behind the raccoon is Georges Brassens. One of the most famous French singers. And for those who know Georges, you should check La pompe moderne: (clearly non ambient, nor psychedelic!)
snowdrop 73 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Shanti Planti all the way. Quanta, Akasha, Landswitcher Plus Globular, as many have already mentioned, and for my original introduction to the genre, Slackbaba (though only his old stuff - I personally don't like his new stuff at all). If you're in the mood to listen to a mix, there's loads of psydub in this one: _/\_ 1 embri0n reacted to this
yiannis 201 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 +1 for Slackbaba. I too like ...And the Beat Goes Om... and his early compilation tunes more than his later stuff, but I think his latest album is a step in what I consider the right direction. 1 snowdrop reacted to this
snowdrop 73 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Also some of Kuba's stuff might be considered a lighter, more subtle form of psydub. 2 yiannis and prophet reacted to this
yiannis 201 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Also some of Kuba's stuff might be considered a lighter, more subtle form of psydub. I'll have to agree about that too. A bit less psychedelic but quite blissful and emotional. A kind of early experimental psydub album I find pretty interesting to listen to from time to time is Dub Trees - Nature Never Did Betray the Heart that Loved Her, an album masterminded by Youth and Greg Hunter with some pretty well-known collaborators, Ott, Posford and Suns of Arqa's Wadada being the most familiar to me. Another similarly experimental album by some of the same people, but a bit more on the ethnic side is The Kumba Mela Experiment - East of the River Ganges. Both these albums were released by the aforementioned LSD, whose compilations are top-notch. 1 snowdrop reacted to this

Loved both of them, thanks for suggesting! Dub trees was really interesting. But it's weird, now when I listen to Shpongly songs (e.g. magnetica) like some of them I feel "well, already heard", but when I think it's from 2000, I feel better :-)! It's not exactly the focus of the thread but I'd like to share a great funky song with you: Waterjuice - Next steps 1 yiannis reacted to this
Alchemist 31 Report post Posted July 4, 2015 Also some of Kuba's stuff might be considered a lighter, more subtle form of psydub. True. He has nice tunes, some also leaning towards classic stepper dub https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvB0cLJWkbE Here are three favourites of mine that haven't been mentioned yet: 1) Brujo's Bowl - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI3J3_5laW4 Four years old now, but still sounding fresh Too bad he stopped making music like this. His other project 'Beatroots' is also nice, but with a different vibe though. 2) Deep Fried Dub - Often leaning more towards regular dub, with some trippy and drum and bass influences. 3) Tor.Ma in Dub - He put out so much good material last year. I highly recommend his latest two albums (self-released). The previews to his new album also sound promising. 1 Jatab reacted to this
